New Albany has a number of events, both big and small, all through the year. From the Union County Fair and Livestock show to festivals and events focused on Shopping, Arts, Music and Food and Drink, there’s really more than enough to keep folks coming to New Albany time and again.

We are listing some of our larger events below, but you can keep up with all the events, big and small, by liking our events Facebook page (see the window to the right) or by signing up for our monthly newsletter. Doing so will keep you up to date on all the happenings at the Union County Heritage Museum as well as at the Magnolia Civic Center and Cine Theater and other places around town.

SPRING EVENTS

May 2018

National Walking Month

New Albany, Mississippi is home to some great open spaces. Get out and walk this month on The Tanglefoot Trail, The Park Along the River, The Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County walking path, or in your very own neighborhood. Share your favorite walking places on social media with the hashtag #walknewalbany2018 so people everywhere can see the beautiful places that we call home.

Main Street Customer Appreciation Day

The Main Street member shops, downtown and around New Albany will be offering special sales and discounts. Be sure to stop by Cooper Park between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm where Main Street director, Billye Jean, and her assistant, Tracy, will be cooking up hotdogs and passing out drinks. SUMMER EVENTS

Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market 2018

Every Thursday in June, July, & August
Celebrate the grand opening of the Biscuits & Jam Farmers’ Market on Thursday, June 7th. The market will be open every Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm during the months of June, July, & August. Shop with local producers and makers, listen to local musicians, and visit with friends and family. Additionally, Downtown and Around New Albany Main Street members will have extended hours every Thursday to accommodate farmers’ market visitors.

Main Street Unwine’d & Walk Downtown

June 8, 2018
Stroll, shop, and visit at Main Street member retailers and enjoy a sample of wine, sparkling water, and tasty treats. A limited number of ticket vouchers will be on sale at the New Albany Main Street Association office at 135 E. Bankhead from May 21st through June 1st. Farm to Table Dinner

The 2018 Farm to Table Dinner will be held at the beautiful new event space Camp 106, in the heart of downtown New Albany, Mississippi. The contributors this year are Chef Mitch McCamey, Chef Cooper Miller, and mixologist Megan Dye all of Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen and Pastry Chef Samantha Allen and owner Mary Jennifer Russell of Sugaree’s Bakery.

Freedom Fest Weekend Long Sidewalk Sale

Freedom Fest

Enjoy music, food, and a makers’ market, as well as a firework show and more on the banks of the beautiful Tallahatchie River in downtown New Albany! William Faulkner Literary Festival Event

William Faulkner was born on September 25, 1897, on Jefferson Street in New Albany, Mississippi. Some of his notable awards were the 1949 Nobel Prize for Literature, the 1955 and 1963 Pulitzer Prizes for Fiction and the 1951 and 1955 National Book Awards. Recognizing the significance of being the birthplace of one of the most celebrated writers in American Literature generally and Southern Literature specifically, we are proud to provide the William Faulkner Literary contest for aspiring writers. Faulkner Fest

Enjoy the Faulkner Fest each September, the month of William Faulkner’s birth, in his birthplace, New Albany, Mississippi The fest includes Lunch with Books at the Jennie Stephens Smith/Union County Library, Museum Moments at the Union County Heritage Museum, an awards banquet and program for the winners of the William Faulkner Literary Competition and the opening of the Faulkner and Folk Art Exhibit at the Union County Heritage Museum.

Tallahatchie Riverfest

September 28 & 29, 2018
Park Along the River, Downtown New Albany
New Albany’s premier festival, Tallahatchie Riverfest, will begin with a Friday Night Blues competition at the Riverview Stage. Saturday will have a Case Knife Show at the Magnolia Civic Center and an Arts Market, Marketplace, and food vendors around the Union County Courthouse. Activities for children, music throughout downtown, a pet parade and more! The evening will conclude with national acts on the Riverview Stage at Park Along the River. Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at Cooper Park

Framed in front of one of New Albany’s most iconic images, the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Cooper Park is a great memory maker for friends and family. New Albany Annual Christmas Parade

Marching bands, colorful lighted floats, and horse drawn carriages make this a truly special event! The parade courses through a decorated and lit downtown and stores are open late.
