A Farmer’s Market Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, at 6:00p.m. at the Union County Extension Office, for growers who want to be certified to sell at the 2012 Market. This year the market is moving to a location on Main Street near the East end of the Tallahatchie River Bridge. The old Ray Tractor Co. property next to Fred’s Dollar Store. The Market will be called "Biscuits & Jam Farmers Market." As a promotion, on select Saturdays, Sugaree’s will be supplying free bisquits for people who come to the market. The Union County Master Gardner Association has agreed to coordinate the market and facilitate the collection of any sales tax that may be required. Pat and Lisa James are the Master Gardeners who will be organizing educational programs and other activities on Saturday mornings to make the market more attractive. The cost for selling at the market will be $25.00 for the season. Only certified growers will be allowed to sell. To receive a certificate, one must fill out an application and pay the $25.00 fee. Checks should be made out to the Union County Master Gardener Association. The application and certificate will be available at the Union County Extension Office in New Albany. The market will continue to be a market for local grown food items and local made crafts only. Dates are June - August and organizers will evaluate the need to hold the market open in the fall.
