New Albany Main Street Partners with Keep Mississippi Beautiful for Great American Clean Up Day

New Albany Main Street, in partnership with Keep Mississippi Beautiful, will host the annual Great American Clean Up Day on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This community-wide effort is part of the national Great American Cleanup movement and is coordinated locally through Keep New Albany Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep Mississippi Beautiful. The initiative focuses on preserving the beauty and vitality of downtown New Albany, Union County and surrounding neighborhoods.

Volunteers will gather at 9:00 a.m. at the Union County Heritage Museum, located at 114 Cleveland Street, where they will receive trash bags, gloves, and assigned cleanup areas. Teams will then disperse throughout downtown streets, parks, public spaces, and key community corridors to remove litter and refresh high-traffic areas.

“This event is about more than simply picking up trash,” organizers said. “It’s about community pride, collaboration, and investing in the place we call home. A clean and welcoming downtown strengthens local businesses, attracts visitors, and enhances the quality of life for everyone in New Albany and Union County.”

As an affiliate of Keep Mississippi Beautiful, Keep New Albany Beautiful works to promote environmental stewardship, litter prevention, and community beautification efforts throughout the area. The Great American Clean Up Day is one of several initiatives that support these goals and encourage local involvement.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate, including local businesses, civic groups, students, school organizations, churches, families, and individuals. Volunteers may participate for the full two-hour event or contribute as their schedule allows.

Groups and organizations interested in participating are encouraged to register in advance by emailing visitnewalbany@gmail.com
